- Obsessive disorders — Rigid control loops that can't incorporate new information.
- Overfitted AI — Memorizes training data perfectly but fails on novel inputs.
- Bureaucratic paralysis — Rules for everything, judgment for nothing.

- Failed states — Brilliant citizens, no institutions. Intelligence without governance.
- Addiction — The mind models consequences clearly but cannot regulate behavior.
- Misaligned AI — Superhuman capability with no value constraints. The paperclip maximizer.
- Cancerous growth — Cells that can replicate endlessly but ignore the body's signals.
Neither cognition nor regulation alone is sufficient.
The dyad must be balanced AND coupled.
For AI: Capability without values is misalignment.
Values without capability is impotence.
The goal is bilateral: capable AND aligned.
