The Quartic Potential
The Higgs field's quartic (Mexican-hat) potential rendered as a cosmic scene. A symmetric peak sits unstable at the center; the field rolls down into a broken-symmetry ground state that glows as a settled golden attractor in one well, while a faint golden ghost marks the equally valid, unrealized minimum opposite. The two minima are equally deep: the field simply settles into one. A top-down panel shows the circle of equivalent minima, with an arrow from the central peak to the point where the field lands. A second panel lists the same landscape at other scales: magnetism, superconductivity, liquid crystals, neural networks, and the Trust Attractor, where cooperation is more stable than coercion.
